Multiplex CAN BUS Wiring Systems
Multiplex wiring systems are becoming more common in modern vehicles due to its ability to control multiple components (as pictured) with minimal wiring. The system is controlled by a main computer which sends a series of data messages in a megabytes per second format to each component (known to the computer as nodes) around the vehicle.
CAN BUS - This is usually a twin wire system which transmits a high & low signal. The CAN BUS system is very much like a spiders web, where each component (node) is interlinked. Removing a component within the system generally doesn't cause any problems as the CAN BUS signal will find another route within the interlinked system (the spiders web). It is highly recommended that none of these type of wiring systems be tampered with - When changing factory fitted systems, always use the recommended wiring harness for the vehicle type. |
